Hawaiian Slack-Key Guitarist Performs at Tigard Public Library Sept 16th

Hawaiian slack-key guitarist Mark Nelson concludes the Tigard Public Library’s free outdoor summer concert series on Thursday, September 16, at 6 p.m. in the Library’s courtyard. Hawaiian Slack-key guitar is a unique style of tuning achieved by loosening or slackening the guitar keys.

The bass sound is played on the lower register while the melody is played on the higher register at the same time. This unique blending of sounds results in an intricate, rich and soulful harmony.

The Library will provide seating for this concert. In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Library Community Room. The series is sponsored by the Friends of Tigard Library. For more information about this concert or other events at the Library, call 503-718-2517 or visit the Library’s website at http://www.tigard-or.gov/library

Slurry Seals are Coming to Our Area

Slurry seals consist of a thin layer of asphalt binder on top of the existing pavement to restore the street surface. These will be installed in the Cook Park neighborhood south of Durham Rd and in northwestern Tigard. It will be necessary to close each street for one day to do the slurry seal work. Our inspectors and the contractor will do their best to keep access available for residents as much as possible.
Slurry seal work will be performed in Northwestern Tigard (west of 130th and north of Bull Mountain) from September 7th through 15th. This schedule is tentative, as weather, workload, mechanical issues, or a host of other factors could cause a change in schedule.
The contractor will start as early as 7:00 a.m. spreading the slurry seal, which is a thick oil mixed with sand, on top of the street. Most streets are done in the morning. The slurry seal mixture typically takes 4 to 6 hours to dry.
PLEASE NOTE: On the day of the Slurry Seal, the street may be closed as early as 7:00 a.m. Residents needing their vehicles should park on another street the night before or early morning of the work. Residents can leave their vehicles in their driveway or garage as long as they don't need to get out during the day. Crews will reopen the street when it is dry enough to walk or drive on, which is typically by 5:00 p.m.
Water impedes the adhesion of the slurry seal. Please turn off sprinklers that cause water to flow into the street. Please also avoid any activities (such as car washing) that will cause water to flow into the street. All vehicles, pedestrians, children, and pets must be kept off the street during this drying time.

Please call our project hotline at 503-718-2760 with any questions or concerns. Thank you for your patience during construction.

Your current web browser must be updated to version 7 of Internet Explorer (IE7) to take advantage of all of template's capabilities.

Why should I upgrade to Internet Explorer 7? Microsoft has redesigned Internet Explorer from the ground up, with better security, new capabilities, and a whole new interface. Many changes resulted from the feedback of millions of users who tested prerelease versions of the new browser. The most compelling reason to upgrade is the improved security. The Internet of today is not the Internet of five years ago. There are dangers that simply didn't exist back in 2001, when Internet Explorer 6 was released to the world. Internet Explorer 7 makes surfing the web fundamentally safer by offering greater protection against viruses, spyware, and other online risks.
